Don’t Get Used To Being Disrespected

The more chances you give someone the less respect they’ll start to have for you. They’ll begin to ignore the standards that you’ve set because they’ll know another chance will always be given. They’re not afraid to lose you because they know no matter what you won’t walk away. They get comfortable with depending on your forgiveness. Never let a person get comfortable disrespecting you.Trent Shelton

    True story

Sometimes it is family that is disrespectful. I had to spend 24 years being insulted, disrespected and laughed at in front of others as a subject of ridicule by a evil sociopathic sister in law. My Mother demanded we keep the peace or else she threatened we would never see our Brother and My Mother would never see her son. It was hideous torture and to this day I cannot tolerate any holiday even now that the main players are dead. It has far reaching lasting negative effects on you as a person, you feel less then whole, not worthy and begin to question why you exist. Do not let this happen to you. if I had been brave enough to walk away from my family I would be a stronger person today. Instead I relive the torture and insults every day and the pain never goes away of the bullying, the set up for ridicule where she made entire room full of people laugh at me, the meanness the torture. Keep in mind I had my Mother (who was obviously clueless) beg me to keep the peace and put up with it. After years of being free of it, I find I am never free of the pain of the torture. Do not let this happen to you! Even if its family walk away and you serve yourself with respect by doing so. I felt I had to be bullied to be part of the family. Its not right for anyone to treat another human being in that manner. Even if its your parent asking you to just put up with it, do not allow it.

    • I feel for your pain and understand how you feel. It only proves how brave you handled it, karma will reach your sister in law as we must treat others in kindness as what we want to us. Pray that time will heal.

  14. I believe that there can only be given so many chances to people in life. When they begin time after time to abuse those chances. You must as it is said, let go and let God. Otherwise those people who are sinking, tend to take down the very people that are trying to help them.
