The 10 things I learned when I finally decided to LET GO

Letting go is a hard thing to do.

People hold on to some things even if it keeps pulling them down. Faced with tough decisions, I believe that there are a time and place for everything. Some things are meant to last forever, while others are merely passing in our life.

Whether it is a thing or a person, letting go could give you relief. Below are the top 10 things I realized when I finally decided to let go.

  1. You can’t be happy with someone else if you aren’t happy with yourself.

Yourself should be your number one priority. There is no way that someone else can make you happy if you are not happy with yourself. Letting go enables you to focus on yourself again.

  1. Never half-ass or be half-assed.

Commitment is either 0 percent or a hundred. There is no compromise. If you are not fully committed, then you are not committed at all. In a relationship, it should go both ways. Therefore, if the other person is not committed to you, it is time to let go.

  1. Trust the timing of your life.

Letting go does not mean for life. There are some things that you should let go for now and pick up later. After all, timing is everything and everything happens for a reason.

  1. Stop worrying.

Worrying does not make things any better. Focus on solutions.

  1. Control only what you can.

Admit that there are things that are beyond control. Focus on things that you can control, like your thoughts, feelings, decisions, actions, and reactions, and let go of the things that you cannot.

  1. Letting go doesn’t mean there is a lack of care.

Do not hold on to things because you are worried that people will think that you do not care. It will be a burden to you.

  1. Remember who you are.

If you are in a point that you lost yourself over something or someone, letting go is an opportunity for you to rein it back. Letting go will allow you to go back to your interests and hobbies to your friends and priorities.

  1. It’s not the end of the world.

Easier said than done, but it’s true. There are some things that are better without. In the grand scheme of things, though, it’s not the end of the world. All negative feelings are fleeting and will go away.

  1. Yesterday does not define you.

Your past does not define your now. What’s important is your current predicament. Move on and learn from your mistakes.

  1. Keep moving forward.

If you hit rock bottom, there is no way but up. Keep moving forward and you will find the result you are seeking for.
