A little act of kindness is highly contagious no matter how simple the gesture is. In line with Karma’s principle of ‘what goes around, comes around,’ the world would surely be bursting with joy if all of us will do even just one act of kindness each day.
A good example of the positive principle of Karma is a heartwarming story of an employee, who did not think twice of making a child’s day brighter. How he had a dose of his own admirable gesture of kindness is inspiring people all over the world!
The eighteen-year-old young man named Travis Sattler, has been attending to the cashier of Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers for about a year. A few weeks after his first year of working, he had a remarkable encounter with a little boy, changing his life for the better.
The adorable little boy was enjoying his meal together with his mother. Just like most kids, a hearty meal will not be complete without a sweet treat. Looking forward to a delicious dessert, the little boy walked up to the counter and ordered for a yummy frozen yogurt.
“Once I told him his total he was fumbling around with his change (and) all of his money, counting it all, and then he just hands everything to me. It wasn’t enough,” Travis recalled his fondest memory.
Although the kid’s money was 2 dollars short, Travis can’t find it in his heart to turn down the child. So despite his need to save money for his education, Travis brought out his own wallet and simply swiped the bill to his credit card. With a big smile on his face, he handed the frozen yogurt to the little boy.
“(He had) a massive smile (and) the widest eyes (when he) ran back to his mom and told her what happened,” Travis said, satisfied that he was able to make the young boy happy.
Energetically, the young buy returned to his mother together with his delicious dessert. Apparently, the young boy explained what happened to his mother, and so right before they leave the store, the young boy approached Travis once again.
With a big goofy smile plastered on his face, the little boy handed out his receipt, along with a brief note, to the kind and generous Travis.
The note read: “Thank you for being so nice and paying for my custard… We need more people like you.” Clearly, Travis was touched by the gratefulness of the little boy. But, the young boy and his mom’s expression of thanks for Travis’ kindness did not stop there. In addition, inside the note, was a $100 bill.
“I was smiling for the rest of the day, I could not get over it,” Travis admitted. “It made my day.” More than the money, Travis’ heart was overflowing with happiness for the sweet gesture of appreciation.
As old folks used to say, when it rains, it pours. Travis’ selfless act of generosity and kindness he had shown the young kid reached his higher management.
“There is a lot of good still out there no matter what we hear, especially in our young folks, we have a number of them here, Travis being one of them,” Padden Nelson, Freddy’s director of operations, shared in an interview. Clearly, he was proud that one of their young employees serves as a reason to restore our faith in the goodness of other people.
According to Travis, the president of Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers reached out to him and commended his kind gesture. As a token for his admirable good deed, Travis was given by the company with an additional $100 and some goodies.
Travis, a student aspiring to become a professional medical staff, shared that he will use the money to pay for his tuition fee. “I am currently paying my way through nursing school so that will definitely help with that,” Travis shared.
If there is one message the eighteen-year-old Travis would like to share with the world, it is no other than to encourage people to help one another. “Look out for each other and help out when you can.”
True to an old saying, kindness is spreading sunshine into other people’s lives. One does not need to make a grand effort just to help others. An act of kindness, no matter how simple or small, is still an act of kindness.
