According to the statistics record of Humane Society, around 1,423 animal cruelty cases were recorded in the United States. Unfortunately, these 1,423 reports are not the only incidents of animal abuse, for only a few incident have been formally reported. In addition, about 70% of the recorded animal abuse, involved dogs.
One victim of a horrid animal cruelty is a Jack Russell who was almost beaten to death on Highway 171, Texas, US. Luckily, a biker named Brandon Turnbow was riding his motorcycle down the same road when the dog was suffering from animal cruelty.
Shocked and overwhelmed by what he had witnessed, Brandon went on to give the abuser a piece of his mind. However, just before the right words came out of his mouth, the cruel man threw the poor dog onto the curb and drove away.
With his heart aching for the Jack Russel, Brandon knew that he couldn’t just abandon the hurt and scared dog alone on the busy highway. Thinking things through, Brandon approached the dog, who was now shivering from trauma. With his steps moving slowly and carefully so as not to startle the hurt dog.
“I took a chance and just fold my body over him to see if he will bite or trust me,” Brandon recalled in his Facebook account. “He then just lays his body into me shaking so I just stand up with him in my arms and sit him on the bike seat. I was thinking now what?”
To see if the abused dog would be comfortable in riding his motorcycle with him, Brandon turned on his motorbike to help the dog get used to its sounds and vibrations. Once the abused Jack Russel seemed alright, Brandon placed him into his bag.
“I watched in my rear view and saw this guy throw the dog into the air curbside and drive off. I went after the guy just to give him a number one sign,” Brandon shared on Facebook, proud of the new member of his family. “And I now have a Co pilot — Meet Mr. DAVIDSON.”
After falling in love with the Jack Russell’s big and questioning eyes, Brandon decided to keep him. In fact, he even named the poor dog as Mr. Davidson, after the namesake of hi Harley-Davidson motorbike.
“I try to look back as much as I can to see if the dog was trying to move around or not and surprisingly he actually liked riding…. So we had about 45 miles to ride to get back to my place and Mr. Davidson was in heaven! I actually think he was a little mad at times that I was blocking his wind!” Brandon also recalled his first ride experience with Mr. Davidson.
Throughout their journey, people slowed their cars to wave and honk at Mr. Davidson and Brandon, making the latter feel as if they were in a movie.
Two years after Mr.Davidson’s rescue and recovery, he is still as happy and elated to be with his savior, Brandon. The two love spending time with each other, riding their motorcycle as one of their favorite bonding!
“He is an amazing little dog and he shows me love everyday. He will actually howl like an ole hound dog when I leave for work everyday.” Brandon added.
Mr. Davidson is nearly a 12-years-old dog, and no one could tell how much of his years were spent suffering from abuse and cruelty. Looking at the brighter side of life, fortunately, Brandon came at the right time, at the right moment. Now, the dog is enjoying a warm home, a loving family, and a thrilling joyride on the back of Brandon’s motorcycle!
