Statistics report that about 40 to 50 percent of marriages in the United States end up in divorce. However, just because the marriage ends does not mean that the love and respect a couple used to have for each other would end as well.
In a circulating photo online, Codie LaChelle McPhate from Waller, Texas shared her perspective on how a truly matured adult behave towards the person he or she had a union with. Codie believes that divorced partner should be civil with each other and, if possible, be good friends especially when the failed union has an involved children
Codie was visiting her mother’s house to catch up with her when she saw a scene that she was not expecting. The surreal moment that unfolded before her eyes was so unbelievably stunning that she had to capture the moment in a picture and post it online. The photo she captured is now serving as a perfect example of how ex-spouse can still respect and care for each other.
As it turned out, Codie’s honorable father, who has been divorced from her mother for 28 years, mowed the lawn for her mother.
“This guy mows ex-wife’s lawn, not because he has to, but because the world needs more kindness This is my dad, mowing my mom’s lawn. They’ve been divorced 28 years.
My mom has bad knees, and my stepdad works out of town. When my younger siblings questioned, ‘Why is your dad mowing mom’s lawn?’ I told them, ‘Because, she needed help, and he knew she couldn’t get out here to do it, so he did.’” Codie shared with pride on her social media account.
According to Codie, although her parents have been separated for nearly three decades, they never stopped caring for each other and for their children.
Codie also explained that her father did not mow her mother’s lawn for attention. He did it because he is a decent human being who knows how to extend help to a friend who needed it, even when he is not asked to.
“This is co-parenting. This is how lucky I am to have 4 parents who respect each other, and know that at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is showing your children (Even ones that are 32 years old) how to treat people, and how to love your family, no matter how it came together. My dad is with me in Texas on vacation.
He doesn’t even live here where my mom lives. So not only did he do something selflessly for her, he did it for her while he was on his VACATION. He wants everyone to know, ‘I’m no saint.’ He just wants to show others that you don’t need to act like an angelic pastor for lent, but that we should all choose kindness whenever we can.”
The explanation of Codie’s father warmed thousands of hearts who read Codie’s viral post online. It is not everyday that you can meet a wonderful person like Codie’s dad. But his story can inspire thousand people to be just like him.
“My dad said he didn’t do this for the recognition. He said my mom and he decided when they were going through their divorce they would both choose to be adults and treat each other with respect and compassion, because no matter how their marriage ended, they both loved each other very much at one point, and that, that love – counts for something. That if they were going to raise their children to be good, kind people, they needed to be good kind people.”
Codie’s testament of her father’s respectable and admirable mindset pulled the strings of the heart of more than 19,000 people. The proud daughter added that her father is humbled by the overwhelming reception to his compassionate action.
“I’m very fortunate to have such amazing parents,” Codie added, expressing how grateful she is for being blessed with such wonderful parents. “I know my moms and dads would do anything for each other, because we’re family. I’m very fortunate to have such amazing parents.”
True to the words of Codie’s father, a child learns best after his parent. Certainly, with the positive attitude and respectable demeanor of Codie’s father and mother, she grew up just like them- respectful, kind, and loving!
