Football players helped grandma who was frantically beating car window with a hammer

Do you believe that there’s no such thing as coincidences? Do you believe that nothing is random — that every person’s action is somehow connected to another person in some way we are not aware of?

Take for instance, what happened to the football players of the Missouri Western Griffons named Jack Long and Shane Simpson.

One hot afternoon in August, the two teenagers have just finished football practice and were driving home when they have decided to follow another route they don’t usually take when they go home everyday.

While on the road, they witnessed a woman wildly beating the window of a parked car. The football players thought the scene was weird, and initially thought the woman has locked herself out of the car.

However, Jack and Shane realized that the woman’s reaction is a bit extreme for someone who is facing such a simple problem as locking herself out of  a vehicle. They decided to turn around to find out what’s wrong.

As the young men approached the woman, Teresa Gall, she ran to them and cried:  “There’s a baby stuck in the car!”

Jack and Shane quickly checked the car and sure enough, Teresa’s 17-month-old grandchild named Liam was trapped inside, already starting to lose consciousness because of the extreme heat. Teresa said that she accidentally locked herself out and the child started vomiting profusely.

With just a swing of the hammer, Shane was able to break the window. The child was rescued. He was a bit dehydrated, but other than that, he was unhurt.

Teresa was extremely grateful to Jack and Shane.

The teenagers left after helping Teresa, but came back a few minutes later to make sure the toddler was really okay. Teresa offered to pay Shane and Jack with cash for their help, but they declined.  Shane said, β€œAny decent human being out there probably would have done the same thing.”

Jack and Shane invited Teresa and her family to watch their season-opening game. Teresa and her family, together with Liam, didn’t just watch the opening game, they even visited the heroic football players during their practice; two days before the big game. (Watch video below.)

Teresa said that she didn’t know anything about football, but now, she would be a fan of the Missouri Western Griffons for life. Her entire family watched the opening game in support of Jack and Shane.

“I can’t imagine life without my grandson and what could have happened,” Teresa said. “I am eternally grateful to them.”

There are times that something seemingly random happens to us, and most of the time, we don’t really know the exact reasons for some occurrences happening. But that hot day, when Jack and Shane made a supposedly random and sudden decision to take another route — the reason is quite clear now: they had to help a woman, they had to save a life.

Coincidence or not, one thing’s for sure — these football players deserve to be looked up to, not just for their athletic skills, but also for their good hearts.
